From January to March this year, the Consumer Council received a total of 48 insurance-related complaints, of which 6 were travel insurance cases involving the novel coronavirus. The complaint mainly concerned that the insurance policy did not explicitly state that the new coronavirus was not covered, but the insurance company refused to accept claims for cancellation or shorten the duration of journey due to the outbreak. As the situation of each complaint case is different, the Council will discuss the contents of the different cases with the insurance industry and mediate with insurance companies;
In view of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, many outbound travelers are worried about whether travel insurance will offer hospitalization compensation and quarantine allowance if they become infected while traveling overseas. The Council reminds all to understand the terms of travel insurance to protect your rights before departure.
