The Department of Health (DH) today (October 16) urged members of the public not to buy or take two slimming products "Supreme Quick Slim" and "Vital-plus Quick Slim".

Laboratory tests revealed that the two products contain N-nitroso-fenfluramine, a chemical which was reported to be associated with liver damage cases in Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

DH investigated into the products following a local report of liver failure case involving a 33-year-old woman on September 21.

A DH spokesman said the distributor of the two products has been instructed to immediately recall the products from the market and to surrender them to DH.

"Members of the public who have purchased the product are advised to stop using them, dispose of the product or surrender it to the Pharmaceutical Service of DH at 3/F, Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours," the spokesman said.

"They are also advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they feel unwell after taking the products."

Members of the public can call the distributor's hotline at 2317 5458 for matters related to recall of the product.

DH has also set up a hotline 2575 1221 for health enquiries from members of the public until 7 pm today and from 9 am to 5 pm from tomorrow.
