IKEA recalls tree lights

  • 2003.12.22

Hong Kong (19 December, 2003) - IKEA recalls the tinsel tree lights STRÅLA as they do not fulfil safety regulations. There is a risk that bits of the tinsel decoration can get into the lamp socket when changing a bulb, which may cause an electrical shock. IKEA has not received any information about any incidents or injuries, but has decided to recall this product as a precautionary measure for the safety of the customers.

IKEA wants all concerned customers to return the STRÅLA tinsel tree lights to any IKEA store. The tinsel tree lights shall no longer be used in any case, as this may be dangerous. The customers will get a refund even without bringing the receipt and/or packaging. If someone does not want to go to IKEA he/she may send the tinsel tree lights to any IKEA store and get a refund amounting to the price of the tree lights.

IKEA indicates that the company and an external third party make regular tests to make sure demands are met. It was during a check by an independent external testing institute that IKEA learned about the problems with STRÅLA.
