Nikon has announced a voluntary recall of some of its EN-EL3 rechargeable lithium ion battery packs for Nikon digital SLR cameras. The battery packs concerned may, on rare occasions, heat up causing them to malfunction or, in the worst case, to catch fire.
According to Nikon, there have been four reports of incidents of the problem worldwide. Nikon has initiated a voluntary recall and replacement program.
The Nikon EN-EL3 battery pack concerned is for use with Nikon's D100, D70, D70S and D50 digital SLR cameras and is provided as a supplied accessory with the purchase of D100, D70, and D50 cameras.
Please check the below lot number table to verify whether or not this recall applies to your battery.

Note: If the production lot number of your EN-EL3 does not show among those in the list of recalled lot numbers, or if your rechargeable battery is an EN-EL3a or an EN-EL3e, your battery are not affected by this recall.
