Makita has been undertaking a voluntary safety recall of "Makita" Angle Grinder models 9523NB and 9526NB for replacement of the spindle to which the grinding disc is attached.
The recall applies to tools within the following serial number ranges and selling period:
9523NB - sold from 23/8/2002 to 16/3/2004, serial numbers 1209788K to 1440404K
9526NB - sold from 16/1/2003 to 16/3/2004, serial numbers 41446K to 59985K
Under certain circumstances, when using the tool or fitting a wheel and tightening the "flange nut", the spindle onto which the nut is screwed can break. Should this breakage occur while the tool is being used and the wheel is revolving, it is possible that a serious injury could occur.
Owners should cease using these models immediately and contact Makita Power Tools (Hong Kong) Ltd. at 2648 8683 to arrange for replacement of the spindle at no charge.
