The 5th Offence: Bait and Switch
Scenario 3

When Sis Onion was purchasing a cellphone in an Electrical Appliance Store, she saw the store displaying XX’s cellphone stating, “Special Sale on XX cellphones. Only HK$1,599.”

She went in to inquire about it, “Could I have a try on this cellphone?” Staff A replied, “Of course.”

Staff A took out XX cellphone from a drawer labeled “defective cellphones” and gave it to Sis Onion. Staff B was surprised by Staff A’s act.

After having a try, Sis Onion said, “The camera of this cellphone doesn’t seem to work.” Staff A replied, “Really? How about trying YY cellphone? It has the newest function and it’s only HK$2,999.”

Sis Onion asked, “Is there another sample of XX cellphone that I can try?” Staff A replied, “Don’t bother to try XX cellphone. Just try out YY cellphone. The pixel of the camera is even higher. It has two cameras which will make it convenient for taking self portrait photos.”

Staff A handed YY cellphone to Sis Onion who took it hesitantly.

At this moment, Staff B took Staff A over to the other end of the counter and asked quietly, “Why did you show her the defective phone?” Staff A explained, “If I didn’t do that, how can I promote the pricier YY cellphone?”
