Digital cameras with built-in stabilization to help improve picturequality - CHOICE # 368

  • 2007.06.15

If you have problem with holding a camera steady for photo shoot, try a model with stabilization feature.

Included in the Consumer Council latest test report on 19 new digital cameras (with picture resolution from 5 to 8 mega pixels) were 4 samples equipped with optical image stabilization feature.

And true to their own claim, all the 4 models were verified to possess the capability of image stabilization.

Consumers are advised to differentiate between the optical and electronic stabilization features. The former usually are more useful in helping to achieve sharp and quality pictures while the latter may produce pictures with more noise (grainy).

Overall, most samples were able to produce satisfactory picture quality. For flash and battery performance, versatility and ease of use, their performances differed more significantly. Full comparative test results can be found in this June issue of CHOICE.

All samples in the test are fitted with optical zoom. Some have powerful zoom, and one even upto 18 times.

Most are light in weight and easy to carry. Most are below 200 gm (including battery and memory card).
