Setting up your own library of family photo albums the hassle-freeway - CHOICE # 367

  • 2007.05.15

The hassle with organizing and storing tons of bulky, heavy family photo albums is out.

And in comes a wide array of computer photo softwares that can make life easier.

The Consumer Council has tested 17 such photo softwares to compare their performance in: photo viewing and organizing, editing and adjusting, sharing, versatility and ergonomics.

Among the samples were photo softwares falling into 4 types obtainable from different sources:

  • Digital camera bundled softwares (included in the digital camera package).
  • Freewares (downloadable from the internet and free for personal use).
  • Computer operating system built-in softwares.
  • Commercially available softwares (including sharewares).

An appropriate software can help with many tasks such as organizing, editing, slideshows and printing. It can help to share the photos with friends and relatives by email or creating web album.

Results of the Council test showed that some softwares are more complete in functionality and some are simpler to operate.

In fact, some digital camera bundled softwares performed quite satisfactorily, without the need to buy any additional.

Also, depending on the individual needs, equally satisfactory were some freewares in their functions and performance.

Some commercially available softwares are powerful in photo editing but naturally you will have to pay extra for them.
