At 5pm, Onion Junior attended a talk about Timesharing Scheme in a travel service centre. The speaker bragged about the scheme saying, “With an annual fee of only thirty thousands, you can have wonderful experience of life in this magnificent resort house on the dates you choose and exchange the right to use any resort houses with other participants…” Onion Junior was not interested in the program and dozed off while he was listening.
At around 7p.m., the talk ended. When Onion Junior was about to leave, two staff members intercepted him saying, “If you register with your identity card now, you may get free accommodation in Australia.” Onion Junior then handed them his identity card happily.
At this juncture, the staff began their sales talk, “Sir, you have a striking appearance and good taste in fashion. You must fond of personalized travel package.” Onion Junior was pleased by the flattering. The staff said, “Our golden diamond membership is very suitable for you. We have resort houses all over various hot destinations. You can’t miss it if you like enjoying sunshine and beach.”
Seeing Onion Junior was undecided, the staff continued to persuade, “The full year membership only costs HK$50,000 per year. If you decide to pay by installments, it’s merely a couple of thousand dollars per month. ” Onion Junior having thought for a while, said, “It’s too pricey. I need more time to ponder over it. Please return my identity card.”
The staff continued, “If the golden diamond membership is too expensive, perhaps you could consider the silver diamond membership! It’s only HK$40,000 per year.” Onion Junior shook his head, “I really don’t have the money. I don’t want the free offer to Australia anymore. Could you return my identity card?”
The staff ignored Onion Junior’s request and continued their tedious sales pitch, “How about the pearl membership? It’s only HK$30,000 per year. This is our most discounted program. We will return your identity card and let you leave once you promised to participate.” Onion Junior glanced at his watch and realized it was already twelve midnight. He kept yawning and was so tired that he could barely open his eyes. Eventually, he signed the contract and paid with a foggy mind.
