Toshiba Hong Kong Limited issued a product safety advisory for the Toshiba SD-P1610 Portable DVD Players.
Toshiba have identified an issue related to the AC Adaptor included with portable DVD player model SD-P1610. It has been found that a poor soldering of certain circuit components inside of the AC Adaptor may cause momentary increase of voltage output. This momentary increase of the voltage output could cause the DC-DC converter used on the electric circuit of these models to overheat. In rare cases it is possible that the bottom cover of the Portable DVD may become hot to the touch, the bottom casing may become deformed, and the Portable DVD player may cease to function.
The portable DVD player model number can be identified from the label on the bottom of the DVD player as shown in the photograph below.
The AC Adaptor model number can be identified from the label on the bottom of the AC adaptor with the product code ADPV16 as shown in the photograph below.
According to Toshiba Hong Kong Limited, there have been no reports of injuries and the risk to users' health/safety is considered to be slight - potentially a superficial burn from contact with an overheated cover. Nevertheless, Toshiba is advising customers worldwide that it is implementing a free AC adaptor exchange programme.
