IKEA recalls PARODI glass vase for laceration hazard

  • 2007.02.01

According to IKEA, the company has received reports worldwide of incidents where the base of PARODI vase broke for no apparent reason while the vase was being lifted. Seven customers sustained cuts and in five cases hospital treatment was required.

Following investigation a number of PARODI vases have been found to have too high internal stresses which may increase the risk of breakage, especially if the glass is damaged in some way, for example knocked or scratched.

PARODI vases stand about 70 cm (28 inches) high and weigh approximately 5 kg (11 pounds). The base diameter is 15 cm (6 inches) and the top diameter is 23 cm (9 inches).

PARODI vase is produced in black (art. no. 20110234), white (art. no. 50112199) and clear glass (art. no. 00079545). The company's logo, article number and supplier number are printed on a white sticker on the underside of the vase.

PARODI vase has been sold on all IKEA sales market since April 2004.

The company wants consumers who have bought a PARODI glass vase from supplier number #18347 to bring it back to the Exchange & Returns Department at their stores, for a full refund. No other vases are affected.

The company reminds customers that all glass is fragile and even robust, thick-walled designs should always be handled with care. When returning the vase, to avoid risk of breakage and possible injury, customers are asked to avoid placing their hands at or near the base and to ensure that the vase is securely packaged.

For more information, customers can visit the company website at www.IKEA.com.hk or call their customer service hotline at 3125 0888 or visit their stores.
