The First Years is carrying out a voluntarily recall for 6 liquid-filled teethers for 3+ months old infants due to possible bacterial contamination. In the US, the First Years made this voluntary announcement in co-operation with the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on 28 January 2006. The liquid inside the affected teethers may contain pseudomonas aeruginosa and pseudomonas putida which can cause serious illness in children if the teether is punctured and the liquid from the teether is ingested.
In Hong Kong, only 1 affected model (The First Years Cool Animal Teether / Fish, Zebra and Dinosaur designs) (Model Number # Y 1473) has been sold in major retail outlets between November 2005 and January 2006. To date, The First Years has not received any reports of illnesses in connection with the affected teethers.
As a precaution, parents are advised to take the affected teethers away from their children. Consumers should place the recalled teether in its current condition in a sealed plastic bag include mailing address and send to the following address, to receive a replacement teether and free gift.
