Voluntary recall of table lamps

  • 2001.08.22

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (August 22) urged consumers to stop using immediately, for safety reasons, a model of table lamps that were offered by the Standard Chartered Bank as free gifts to their credit card holders between September 2000 and June 2001.

Acting on a complaint, EMSD found that a non-compliant fuse, marked with "FUSE DL 13A BS1362" in red, was fitted to the plug of the concerned table lamp that might pose a hazard to users in case of an electrical short-circuit fault. Moreover, there may be a risk of touching the live lamp cap during replacement of the lamp bulb by the users.

Consumers are advised to return these table lamps to the Standard Chartered Bank through designated collection centres in exchange for other free gifts as soon as possible.

Details of the recall can be obtained from the bank's customer service enquiry hotline 2292 9020.
