False information purported to be originated from the Consumer Council has been spread by means of e-mail recently. The Council was falsely alleged to have visited a health club in Garden Road in Central to deal with complaints that the club concerned had secretly filmed members while they were changing clothes or taking a shower. The relevant e-mail further contained the false claim that the Council was convinced of the truthfulness of the complaints and had appealed to the public not to join the club.
The Council in fact was not involved in any of the activities above-mentioned. The Council has reported the matter to the police for follow-up.
