The Body Shop is strongly urged to immediately institute a product recall with full refund following the withdrawal from sales of its hemp products suspected to be in breach of the law.

The Consumer Council believes that positive steps should be taken by the Body Shop to not only withdraw the products in question but to issue a product recall with refund provisions to all consumers affected.

The Council is of the view that businesses should always bear in mind the interests of consumers and should refrain from promoting any products under investigation by the authorities.

To have continued to actively promote such products to the unwary public, despite an official investigation under way, is highly undesirable trade practice.

Consumers are advised that it is in their interest to return the goods to the shop should a product recall be made. They may commit an offence under the law if the products are found by the court to be illegal. Consumers should be offered the option of full cash refund or other acceptable alternatives.
