The Department of Health (DH) today (December 7) endorsed a licensed drug wholesaler, Julius Chen & Co (HK) Ltd, to recall a batch (batch number: DJP 1501) of JeceFARMA Rabeprazole Sodium Enteric Coated 20mg tablets (registration number: HK-63779) from the market due to a quality issue.

During the DH's market surveillance, samples of the above product were collected for analysis. Testing results from the Government Laboratory revealed that the active ingredient content of the samples was found to be less than the labelled claim, which might affect the efficacy of the product.

Julius Chen & Co (HK) Ltd has voluntarily recalled the product from the market and was instructed to report the root cause upon investigation by the manufacturer. The DH's investigation is continuing.

The above pharmaceutical product, containing rabeprazole, is a prescription-only medicine used to suppress gastric acid production. According to the wholesaler, the product has been supplied to local private doctors and other wholesalers.

"So far, the DH has not received any adverse reaction reports in connection with the above product. We will closely monitor the recall," a spokesman for the DH said.

"Members of the public should consult healthcare professionals if in doubt or feeling unwell after using the product," the spokesman added.

Julius Chen & Co (HK) Ltd has set up a hotline (2487 1301) to answer related enquiries.
