- The most notable price differences were recorded in a Fabric
Softener 2L and a Cheese Cracker 197g. In the former, the price
range spanned from $11, the lowest, to $19.5, the highest, a
difference of $8.5 or 77.3%. In the latter, it ranged from $9.9,
the lowest, to $14.9, the highest, a difference of $5 or
50.5%.
A Quick Serve Macaroni (Chicken Broth) 90g and a Concentrated Blackcurrant Drink (Original Flavour) 1L also varied considerably at different retail outlets from, respectively, $2.8 to $4.2, a difference of $1.4 or 50%, and $28 to $41.9, a difference of $13.9 or 49.6%.
- The least price differentials of 10% or under were found in the
Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Canola Oil 750ml, ranging from $32.9 to
$34.9, a difference of $2 or 6.1% and a Calrose Rice 5kg from $69.9
to $76.9, a difference of $7 or 10%.
- Amongst the 15 commodities in the survey, the lowest price of the various items was observed to spread over the different types of retail outlets－2 items in major supermarket chain outlets, 8 items in grocery and frozen food stores, and 5 items in drugstores.
Consumers intent on price savings are advised to shop around and compare prices to counter inflationary pressure.
