Malachite green found in seawater fish sample

  • 2015.07.23

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (July 23) announced that trace amount of malachite green was found in a skewband grunt sample taken from a local fish farm.

An AFCD spokesman said, "The fish farm concerned is a participant of the Accredited Fish Farm Scheme. Three samples from a batch have been collected for testing during regular monitoring and one of the samples was found to contain trace amount of malachite green. The concerned batch has not entered the market."

The AFCD is following up the case with the fish farmer to ascertain the source of malachite green.

The AFCD will step up monitoring of local fish farms while the Centre for Food Safety will enhance surveillance at retail level.
